Exclusivity

Big Idea - Christianity is a claim to exclusivity but it is not alone. It is the responsibility of the believer to handle this exclusive claim to truth with all the grace that Jesus has shown them.

Key Scripture - John 14:6

Obstacles

All major religions are equally valid and basically say the same thing.

Each religion sees part of the spiritual truth but none see the whole truth

Religious belief is too culturally and historically conditioned to be truth

It is arrogant to insist that your religion is right and try to convert others to it

The Problem with the Obstacles

The Nature of Truth - Truth by definition is exclusive.

Major World Religions

Judaism, Christianity, Islam

Hinduism, Buddhism

Atheism, Inclusivism

The Message of Jesus can be offensive. We shouldn't be.

The exclusive claims of Christianity should be held in the knowledge of:

Our own shortcomings

All Truth is God's Truth

Overcome a history of not handling exclusivity well

Overcome the fear of grace and truth

Overcome the notion that disagreement equals hate

Overcome our own ignorance
